Department of Physics

The Department of Physics is dedicated in providing the essential components of engineering education through a strong scientific foundation by offering Applied Physics, Engineering Physics, and Physics for Computing Science courses for various engineering disciplines. In addition to standard courses, the department also provides elective courses in emerging fields such as Quantum Computing and Nanotechnology. The students are encouraged to undertake their minor and major projects in these cutting-edge technologies, to gain valuable exposure through research activities. The department is equipped with academic laboratories for undergraduate engineering courses and specialized research centres focused on Nanotechnology, Battery Technology and Multifunctional materials. The faculty of physics are well experienced professionals with doctoral degrees from premier institutions across the country. They also secured sponsored projects from external funding agencies such as AICTE, DST-SERB, DAE, DST-TARE, UGC and DRDO etc., focusing on emerging functional materials.

A solid grounding in physics equips engineering students with the analytical and problem-solving skills which are necessary for addressing the complex engineering issues. A firm grasp of physical principles is vital for the design of innovative products and systems across various engineering fields. The department actively encourages the involvement of students in research activities, offering hands-on experience and exposure to the leading scientific developments. The department has well-equipped laboratories where students conduct experiments to reinforce their classroom learning, helping them acquire practical skills in measurements, data analysis, and the use of scientific instruments. The department plays an important role in bridging the gap between the science and engineering with pioneered expertise of the faculty. The faculty are also exploring the materials for latest technological applications as a part of their R&D activities.
